Bagnaia Fastest in Sepang MotoGP Practice, But Marquez Shows Promising Speed
The first day of practice at the Sepang International Circuit for the Malaysian MotoGP saw Pecco Bagnaia top the timesheets, but Marc Marquez's performance raised eyebrows and added intrigue to the weekend's action.
Bagnaia, the reigning MotoGP champion, set the fastest time of 1:58.639 in the combined practice sessions, showcasing his confidence and dominance. The Ducati rider was clearly in a strong position, but he was closely followed by another Ducati rider, Jorge Martin, who finished just 0.091 seconds behind.
While Bagnaia and Martin set the pace, it was Marc Marquez who stole the headlines. The eight-time world champion, who has been struggling with injuries and inconsistency in recent seasons, looked revitalized and showed impressive speed on his Honda. Marquez ended the day in sixth place, just over half a second off the pace, a significant improvement for the Spaniard.
However, the day wasn't without its drama. The session was briefly interrupted by a red flag after Maverick Viñales crashed heavily at Turn 10, sending him to the medical center for evaluation. Thankfully, he was released shortly after with no serious injuries.
